Safety Surfacing

Miracle Design and Play offer a range of high-quality surfaces for your project needs from beautiful grass mats to simple loose-fill sand and bark. View our options below and contact for more information about your project.

GRASS MATS

Grass mats are supplied as 1m x 1.5m tiles and are a cost-effective safety surfacing solution. They are installed on top of established turf and so over time, the grass grows through the mat resulting in a natural finish to the play area.

Grass mat surfacing carries a 5-year warranty and can be combined with a foam shock pad under the turf to increase the CFH of the surface. The grass can be maintained as usual once the turf has been established.

WET POUR

One of the main benefits of wet pour surfacing is that it is available in a wide variety of colours which can inspire creative graphics and designs. Wet pour is usually installed in a two-layer system, and at different depths according to the CFH required.

It required a hard sub-base to install on top of (usually compacted MOT Type 1 stone) and a PCC kerb edging to bind to.

After installation, this outdoor rubber surface requires minimal maintenance and can often be walked on the following day. Wet pour surfacing carries a 5-year warranty.

RUBBER MULCH

Bonded rubber mulch is created from recycled forklift truck tyres that are shredded to appear like wood bark chippings. These metal-free rubber shreds are then bonded together with a polyurethane resin.

This blend is then installed to create a seamless playground floor with no loose particles. Rubber mulch is also available in a variety of colours and is installed at different depths to provide the CFH required.

If installed onto a suitable sub-base (usually compacted MOT Type 1 stone), rubber mulch carries a 5-year warranty. The advantage it has over wet pour is that it requires no formal edging which makes it more cost-effective, but equally as low maintenance.

LOOSE FILL

Loose fill surfaces include sand and bark and are usually installed at 300mm depth. Whilst these provide a natural finish to a play area, there are a number of disadvantages to loose-fill surfaces.

As it’s loose, and not bound, the particles often get displaced, especially around forced movement items such as swings and roundabouts. Therefore the surface requires frequent maintenance and topping up. In addition to this, litter and glass can often be hidden on the surface as well as animal faeces.

Loose fill surfaces require the excavation of the soil to the required depth and timber edging to retain the particles around the perimeter.
